The Ohio Heart transplant Information system for improved Outcomes (OHIO) Project

In 2002 The Ohio Solid Organ Transplantation Consortium (OSOTC) Heart Committee along with the University of Cincinnati’s Institute for Health Policy and Health Services Research (IHPHSR) developed The Ohio Project, a secure internet based system meets both patient evaluation and basic research needs of the OSOTC.

The IHPHSR created a patient data registry that provides an extensive data store to accumulate detailed patient data for benchmarking, program evaluation, medical decision making, and many other research agendas.

The system provides web forms for the collection of several categories of data:

· Patient registration data

· Listing data

· Transplant data

· Pre and post transplant follow up data

The system hosts an anonymous question and answer bulletin board for evaluators from the participating Consortium centers.

The system automatically sends date driven and event driven notifications and reminders via email to appropriate users:

· New patient notifications

· Patient data updates

· Follow up reminders

· Vote reminders

· Discussion issue reminders

· Vote completion notifications

· Vote certification reminders

· Vote certification notifications
